I want to shake his hand..

Hello again

I know it's been a few days since I last posted, and I am sorry about that.  Lots of things have been happening recently, most of which is not my story to tell.  Also, I have Vertigo.  This came on suddenly on Wednesday, which means I have spent much of the last three days flat on my back (not in a good way!) and therefore have nothing much to say.  My anti-nausea tablets are now working and I am managing to sit up for most of the day (yippee).

I came on here today because I wanted to see if I could embed a video, and not just any old video.  This clip is one I think everyone should see.  Please watch it through to the end.

Here goes:

Oh dear, my 'woolly liberal' views are showing through again :)

I want to ride my bicycle (I want to ride my biiiiike)

I recently bought a bicycle.

This may not seem surprising, as you probably don't know me.  However, if you DID know me, you would know that my weight has yo-yo'ed for my whole life, up and down, with more ups than downs.  I actually managed to get close to goal weight a couple of years ago, but then got ill and (yada, yada, yada) the weight piled back on again.  So, for the last two years, I have sat around doing nothing much and exercising very little not at all.

In a bid to get myself back to the gym, I bought a bike.  My thinking was that I would be more likely to cycle to the gym than walk, an idea which has not yet come to fruition.  I have been going to work on my bike, instead of walking, which has been quite strange.  There is much more traffic than there used to be - the cars don't even have a man walking in front of them with a flag anymore! - which makes me quite nervous on the road.  I've kitted myself out with a lovely cycling helmet, best lights I could get and have pinched one of Biggus' Hi-Vis vests.  Apparently, I look like a Special Constable.  Special *something* anyway!

I have, so far, been mostly a 'fair weather' cyclist and, this morning, it was chucking it down with rain.  I decided to walk to work.  I have realised that walking to work gets really, really boring when you've been doing much the same route for fifteen years, some of it for twenty-three years.*

This brings me to the point of this extremely boring post.  It will serve to remind me that, rain or shine, as long as there is no snow or ice, I MUST CYCLE TO WORK.  The reason for this is as follows:

If I get fed up or tired when I'm cycling to work, I can stop pedalling and momentum will carry me on.  Stopping when you're walking simply means that you stop moving and the boring walk takes even longer.

So, take note, lazy, fat, extremely fit future Sheppitsgal reading back - on your bike!

*Yes, I have had the same job for 23 years! I'm not even that old, honest.

It's ok, there's a cat picture

I wasn't going to blog about this, because I really don't want a political blog in which I air my 'woolly liberal' views, so I will keep this short.

I miss the days when people in this country were innocent until proven guilty.

That's all.

Here's a picture of Cat.

Biting the bullet

I have made what could possibly be an error. I have told my parents about this blog!

Having done this, I have decided that I may as well announce the existence of this blog on Twitter, so HELLO any Twitterists who could be arsed to read this far clicked over.

(Sorry I said 'arsed', Mum!)

Among my Twitter friends are my Dad, my brother, my nephew,  some fabulous bloggers (nervous twitch at thought of them reading), some friends from real life and even my Mother-in-Law (Hi! *waves*), so I suppose I might have to be careful about what I say in future.

That is why I think that going public may be an error, but if I don't, I might as well stop writing now and just talk to Cat as per usual.

So, as it is going to slip out at some point, I may as well just get it over with now -

Fuck.

There you go, don't we all feel much more comfortable now?

Playing

This is a practice post, to see how what the photo layout is like.  Above is Cat, having a chill out and listening to me yammering on.

Also wanted to check whether I can have my lovely sparkly blinky avatar moving.  Seems that I can.  This was made for me many moons ago by someone on MSN Chat, can't remember her name now, but am still very grateful. Love it.

Reasons I am tired

The experiment did not work.  This was mainly my fault, as follows:

  1. I do not like to be tucked in.  Biggus does like to be tucked in.  I woke up at 3am struggling to get my legs out from under the covers.
  2. I like to listen to the radio in bed.  This means that the radio is on my side of the bed.  Biggus just has a crappy old analogue clock radio, on which I could not find Radio 4.
  3. I could not lie lay sleep on my right side and fling my left leg over the covers.  Just does not feel the same with the opposite leg.
  4. Cat wandered all over the bed in a confused fashion at 5.15am.  I could not wake Biggus, nor could I get out from the tucked in covers. Cat gave up and we both went back to sleep.
  5. Cat and I eventually woke Biggus up at 6.40am.
  6. At this point, I had to get up to pee.
I would have had more sleep just staying in the normal routine.

Update from the boudoir

Experiment failed.

Will a change be (as good as) a rest?

I have already mentioned that we have a cat.

When we first got Cat, Biggus was working away through the week and I wanted some company.  As it was mostly just Cat and me in the early days, I have become his favourite minion.  He is not a lap cat, but he likes to snuggle next to me on the couch and he follows me around the house, including to the bathroom.  Also, you should know he is a house cat, as the rescue centre asked us to keep him in, due to the fact that this is the wussiest scaredy cat ever.

Cat likes to wake me up at o' dark-thirty for his breakfast. This is normally at least two hours before I actually have to get up and means that I haven't slept a full night at home since he moved in.  He is difficult to ignore, because he sits on my pillow and pats my face until I get up.  Luckily (for him), I can get back to sleep quite well after he's fed.

Biggus complains that Cat does not like him.  This is more or less true.  Cat runs away when he approaches, which I blame on the fact that Cat does not like to be hugged, whereas Biggus likes to hug Cat.  I have pointed out that, whilst I might get the bonus of cat snuggles, I also get the downsides of scooping litter and dealing with stinky cat food at 4am, not to mention the whole 'cat breath in the face in the middle of the night' part.  Meanwhile, Biggus gets to sleep through the night.  In fact, he does not even slightly wake up.

So tonight, we experiment. (Ooh, saucy!) We are going to swap sides in bed, to see if Cat realises it's me he's waking up, or if he just goes for the human nearest the door.

I will wake up anyway, and will probably have to elbow Biggus until he wakes up.  However, it should mean that I can go to bed, and not get up until 'getty up time'.

Unless, of course, I have to pee.

Powered by wine..

Having spent the evening faffing about with layouts and things, I am now trying to resist going to all the blogs over there >>> and commenting something really exciting, like

I HAVE A BLOG! COME AND VIST ME! COMMENT! I LIKE EXCLAMATION MARKS!

This is what happens when I drink wine.

I will resist. For now.

Speaking of spelling...

I should also mention that I am English, so there may be some additional vowels in certain words - e.g. colour, favourite.

Both of these words now have lovely red underlining, so this could be fun.

The pressure is on...

After years (yes, years!) of stalking other people's blogs, I have decided it is time to start my own.

I have no real idea what this will be, but I do know what it won't be:

  1. Perfect.  I try to spell correctly, but sometimes get a little confused when it comes to punctuation.  (For example - I am not sure about the apostrophe in 'people's' up there ^).  I will try my best.
  2. A 'mommy' blog.  I am not a 'mommy', or a mama, mum or mam.  Unless the cat counts?
And - that's about all I can think of for now.

So, not perfect and not a mum.  Also, apparently, not very interesting either.

Now, about me...

Not really sure how much I want to reveal at the moment.  I am married, but haven't settled on a blog name for him yet.  I'm leaning towards 'Biggus' (because that's what I usually call him), but suppose I'd better check with him first.

Other than working (which, you know, it's probably best not to talk about here), I spend most of my time reading blogs and books and watching films and repeats of NCIS.  I also assist my cat in his never-ending quest to capture the red dot.  Some of my time (not enough) is also spent thinking I should be at the gym, then eating ice cream instead.

We'll see what happens with this.  I am already feeling the pressure of the *first post*, as I always go back to the first post in blogs to see if it grabs my interest.

Not much chance of that with this one. Meh.

Hhmm, just did a spellcheck and blogger does not recognise the words 'blog' and 'blogs'.
